Our History

Thank you for your interest in Spokane Home Sitting Services and the dynamic team behind this innovative family business.

Spokane Home Sitting was founded in 1997 by lifelong Spokane residents Diana and Kevin Uphus and was originally named Diana’s Home Sitting Services. During the move to their dream home, their previous home was vandalized while vacant for less than a month. They were devastated to find the damages were not covered by insurance because the home was unoccupied.

Through their experience, the concept for a home sitting service dedicated to providing home owners with a stress free way to manage their vacant homes while avoiding the never-ending risks associated with renting was born. Through the years, Diana’s Home Sitting became a well respected business based on core principles and has benefitted hundreds of home owners, home sitters and realtors in the Inland Northwest.

Fast forward to 2014 when a sudden job change brought Tyeanna and Darren Johnson to the Spokane area. They had little time to search for a place to live and didn’t want to sign a lease on a rental in case the perfect home for them became available to buy. By becoming home sitters for a vacant For Sale home in Spokane Valley their family of five enjoyed a large home with a private back yard while saving hundreds of dollars each month they would have had to spend on a cramped apartment and storage unit.

When Diana announced she was selling Diana’s Home Sitting Services, Tyeanna and Darren offered to buy it. They had benefited so much from the service that they wanted to be able to offer it to others. They acquired the business in 2015 and changed the name to Spokane Home Sitting.

With a work ethic based on honesty, care and attention to detail, Tyeanna, a licensed broker, is dedicated to customer service. She carefully selects home sitters who will care for unoccupied homes as if they were her own. Darren, a Biologist, works full time at Fairchild Air Force Base and manages maintenance issues for Spokane Home Sitting. They enjoy spending time in the splendorous outdoors of Eastern Washington and Northern Idaho with their three kids and two brittany terriers.
